Supplementary Instructional Materials Use of Videocassette Materials
1. In recognition of the value of the use of a videocassette as an instructional tool and the recent advance in video technology, the district shall permit classroom use of such material, provided that use is in compliance with copyright laws, that the material is related to the course of study and applicable to the grade level in question, and that the material is used to enhance regular classroom instruction.
2. As a general rule, the title of a videocassette used for classroom instruction purposes should appear as a listing in the current edition of the Los Angeles County Office of Education Videocassette and Film Catalog for elementary schools and secondary schools.
3. As part of the review process, the criteria cited on the above-referenced form and the accompanying content and procedural considerations shall constitute the basis for approval or denial.
Guest Speakers
1. In all instances where guest speakers or outside resource personnel are involved in presentations in a classroom setting or in any part of the instructional program, advance approval shall be obtained by the teacher(s) involved from the principal or designee.
2. Specific procedures to be followed in the arrangement and approval of guest speakers shall be established at each school and made known to all members of the faculty.
3. Presentation and/or discussion of controversial issues shall be in accordance with the provisions of Board Policy.
4. In all courses where the topic to be covered by the guest speaker is one governed by the provisions of Education Code 51550, advance written notice shall be authorized by the principal or designee and shall be distributed by the teacher involved.
