Board Policy BP 1114 Community Relations
Televising Or Videotaping Of School District Programs And Activities Only those school programs and events which contribute to increased public understanding of the school program may be approved for videotaping, telecasting and cablecasting. Such programs could include, but are not limited to instructional programs deemed to be of unusual interest to the public:
1. Performing Arts productions (music, speech, drama).
2. Honors and awards programs.
3. Varsity athletics.
4. Homecoming parade and float activities.
5. Commencement programs.
6. Interviews with school personnel and students, including panel discussions on school-related topics.
The principal of the school will have authority to grant approval for the televising of those events which fall within the list of suggested events. The approval of the Superintendent shall be required for the televising of those events not within the general grouping of suggested events.
When events involving more than one school district are televised, arrangements shall be made with the other school district well in advance of the event.
Commercial video tapes of any school event shall be mutually owned and permission to use must be obtained from the district. The school district will be given permission to use the tape upon request to the videotaping company.
Placement of all equipment and arrangement for the videotaping of any event must be completed at least 30 minutes prior to the commencement of the event. Failure to comply with this rule could result in the cancellation of the right to videotape the event.
It is desired that a producer or director be assigned when videotaping is to be done. In the absence of a producer or director, the camera crew and other TV company employees will take direction as to location of cameras and the operations during the event from the school administrator assigned to the event.
