Solicitation Of Funds From And By Students If any portion of the funds raised is applied to the costs of the fund raiser, all selling or solicitation activities must be approved by the Superintendent or designee at least 15 days before the activity. If the event involves a contract with a commercial vendor, the contract shall be reviewed by the Superintendent or designee.
The principal or designee shall ensure that letters are sent to parents/guardians of the participating students regarding all fund-raising activities. The method and objective of the fund-raising activity shall be described.
No student shall be required to raise a specified amount of money in order to participate in an activity sponsored by a school-related organization.
Students making solicitations on behalf of the school or for school-related projects are expected to be courteous and respectful towards all individuals and businesses.
Door-to-Door Sales
No elementary student shall participate in door-to-door solicitations.
Volunteers eleven years and older must present potential donors or buyers with information, including the purpose of the solicitation and the address from which further information about revenues and administrative expenses may be obtained.
Minors under the age of 16 may engage in door-to-door sales after review of appropriate safety guidelines. (See California Code of Regulations, Title 8, 11706)
Letters sent to parents/guardians regarding such activities may include the following additional suggestions:
1. Students should not be out after dark selling or soliciting funds for school activities.
2. Students should not solicit funds outside of their immediate neighborhood.
3. Parents/guardians shall be informed of safety guidelines in the California Code of Regulations, Title 8, 11706.
