Philosophy, Goals, Objectives and Comprehensive Plans

Goals For The School District

The Board of Education shall adopt long-term goals for achieving the district's overall vision for its schools as well as clear performance standards and benchmarks which can be used to determine if the district is meeting these goals. Goals shall be limited in number so as to be reasonably achievable within established timelines.

The Superintendent or designee may establish short-term, interim objectives and comprehensive plans to ensure adequate, regular progress toward the district's long-term goals.

The district shall provide for the educational, personal and career needs of its students by striving to:

1. Provide a variety of classroom settings and instructional styles which have been shown to be effective.

2. Maintain orderly and efficient campuses which encourage positive attitudes in students and high morale and quality teaching from teachers.

3. Provide for the specialized needs of identified groups of students by the effective use of categorical aid funding.

4. Provide appropriate instruction to meet the varied future and career goals of students.

5. Assure that students achieve academic proficiency in essential areas of skill and knowledge.

6. Identify and respond to individual educational needs of students, each of whom is a unique human being who can ultimately become a responsible and contributing member of society.

7. Develop each student's respect of self and others, personal and school responsibility and critical thinking.

8. Involve parents/guardians and community members in a broad range of activities at each school, recognizing the vital role of parental attitudes and values in education.

District Goals for 2001-2002

1. Assure Consistent Alignment Of The K-12 District Curriculum With The California Content Standards And Provide Additional Learning Opportunities For Students

a. All courses, textbooks, and areas of study shall be aligned with the California Content Standards. District and state assessment systems shall be used to determine the excellence of students in all academic areas.

b. Students shall be offered improved access to courses in honors, advanced placement and institutions of higher learning to increase their post secondary options.

c. Support shall be provided to students to promote their success in all programs.

2. Enhance Instructional Practices.

Emphasis shall be placed on assuring that the instructional practices of all teachers within the district are consistent and current with the California Standards for the Teaching Profession.

3. Serve Students with Special Needs

Ensure compliance with guidelines for programs that serve students with special needs. Compliance with state and federal regulations will be maintained.

4. Implement the Secondary Reconfiguration and the New 9-12 Instructional Program at the Current PVIS Location

A comprehensive plan to establish a high school program on the PVIS site, along with the smooth transition and preservation of the current intermediate school program to the Margate site, shall be developed. The development and implementation of this plan shall include active participation and representation from all stakeholder groups and the active involvement of the Board of Education.

5. Develop an Integrated Districtwide Technology Plan

a. Technology action plans shall be developed to address effective instructional use, technical support, maintenance and replacement schedules, and financial allocation to support the plans.

b. The plan shall be presented to the Board in September 2001 for implementation prior to June 2002.
